Lia, a journalist, has been taken in by the Sulani chief, Keala, having been told she has what it takes to be her successor.

That turns out to mean Keala intends to set Lia up with an Island Elemental so their powers can transfer over to mortals and protect the islands.

Lia needed to develop a relationship with one of them against the clock, before Keala passed away and could no longer summon them.

As it turns out, one of the Elementals was incredibly likable. Lia's friend Darrel Charm came in to perform a corporeal spell.

Newly human boyfriend Fetu is a Snob who thinks highly of his status as an island guardian, but also Romantic and devoted to Lia. But he's also Noncommittal, so they didn't get married.

He came with the aspiration to become a prolific author, so he spends his time writing books about acclimating to mortal life.

They had a daughter, Kahili.

Fetu liked to explore neighbourhoods beyond Sulani too, and take Kahili out to meet other kids.

Kahili naturally got the Child of the Islands trait. She didn't make friends that easily, with a tendency to be overdramatic.

Fetu continued wandering around to other neighbourhoods looking for things to plant at home, and got on people's nerves.

Somehow between Lia's promotions and Fetu raking in money from his novels, they ended up with tons in the bank. So I got them renovated into a slightly bigger villa.

Kahili took charge of the fruit grove and the growing field where they source their food.

And Fetu had to take care of their chickens.

Kahili stacked up skills at a young age, particularly ones that helped her enjoy nature.

Even still a teen, she maximised her gardening skill and had a nearly complete plant collection.
